Repeat Felony Dui Offender Sentenced to Probation For A Second Time; Was On Felony Probation At The Time Of This Offense, Now Has Five Dui Convictions

On Monday, February 26, 2024, Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Dana Simonds overruled prosecutors’ objections and sentenced repeat felony DUI offender Juan Garnica Vigil to probation. Vigil is a five-time convicted DUI driver who was on felony probation at the time of this most recent felony DUI offense. Read full story

Man Sentenced to Maximum Sentence for Assault With Intent to Rape

Defendant Jamonie Alfonzoe Stevens, 28 years old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced earlier today by the Honorable Mark Urioste to serve nine years and eight months in state prison, the maximum term allowed by law.  In December of 2023, a jury convicted Mr. Stevens of committing felony assault with intent to rape, making criminal threats, and false imprisonment. On February 22, 2024, the Sonoma County Commission on Human Rights voted unanimously to pass a ceasefire letter that reads the following: In light of the severe human rights violations occurring in Gaza, Palestine, and Israel, the Sonoma County Commission on Human Rights extends this appeal to all parties involved and affected community members. Early in-person voting begins this weekend for March Presidential Primary Election

Early in-person voting for the March 5, 2024, Presidential Primary Election opens this weekend, Deva Marie Proto, Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters, announced today. Seven vote centers will be open for 11 consecutive days (including weekends) from Saturday, Feb. 24, to Election Day, Tuesday, March 5. Hours of operation for the vote centers will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Election Day itself when the hours will be extended from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Read full story

SoCoAlert and warning exercise for the town of Windsor on Wednesday

On Wednesday, February 28 Sonoma County will be conducting a test of the SoCoAlert emergency notification system starting at 11 a.m. in Windsor and selected Sonoma County evacuation zones adjacent to the town. The County Department of Emergency Management and partners have collaborated on planning the exercise and conducting outreach in the targeted areas. Testing the efficiency of messaging to Spanish-speaking residents was a priority for the exercise planners. Read full story

Concord Man Receives Life Sentence for 2019 Petaluma Outlets Murder

Defendant David Kyle Lubkin, 30 years old of Concord, CA was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for the 2019 murder of Ezequiel Garcia. The defendant was found guilty after trial by a Sonoma County jury of First Degree Murder and Discharging a Firearm at a Motor Vehicle Causing Death on May 30, 2023. These convictions stem from the September 28, 2019, shooting death of 19-year-old Ezequiel Garcia of Santa Rosa at the Petaluma Outlets. Read full story

Standard deadline to register to vote in March Presidential Primary Election is February 20

The standard deadline to register to vote in the upcoming March 5, Presidential Primary Election, is February 20, Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Deva Marie Proto reminded residents. However, eligible voters who miss this deadline still have the option to “conditionally register and vote” in person through Election Day at the Registrar of Voters office or any vote center.
