Sonoma County Community Development Commission to break ground on Tierra de Rosas infrastructure in Roseland

SANTA ROSA, CA | April 25, 2024

Sonoma County will celebrate a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, May 3 beginning at 9:30 a.m., remarks at 10 a.m., for the Tierra de Rosas project, a mixed-use development planned for 75 affordable housing units, a one-acre public plaza, Mercado Food Hall, a civic-use building and 100 units of market-rate housing. The groundbreaking ceremony and celebration represents a monumental step forward in the project and will include light refreshments. The event will take place at Mitote Food Park located at 665 Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa.

“I believe in this project, and I believe in investing in the Roseland community,” said Supervisor Chris Coursey, who represents the area and last summer committed $2 million from Third District infrastructure funds, added to $7.68 million committed by the Board of Supervisors to narrow a funding gap. “We want to celebrate this important milestone with the community that has manifested this dream into reality.”

What: Groundbreaking ceremony for Tierra de Rosas
When: 9:30 a.m, remarks at 10 a.m. Friday, May 3
Where: Mitote Food Park, 665 Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa

Who: State Senate President Pro Tempore Mike McGuire, Assemblymember Damon Connolly, District 3 Supervisor Chris Coursey,  Councilmember Eddie Alvarez, MidPen President/CEO Matt Franklin

The planned Tierra de Rosas infrastructure component is critical to the development of the Casa Roseland projects as the infrastructure must be built before or concurrently with the housing units. Casa Roseland will comprise 75 affordable housing units for households with incomes between 30 percent and 60 percent of the area's median income. To qualify, a family of four would have to make $71,280 or less.

For more information on Roseland Village can be found on the Sonoma County Community Development Commission webpage and MidPen webpage.

The project aligns with the Health and Safety Communities pillar of the County’s Five-Year Strategic Plan approved by the board.
