Westside Road reopens Aug. 28 as Sonoma County nears completion of major storm recovery project

Nearly seven months after an atmospheric river dropped a deluge of rain on Sonoma County, causing massive destruction and tragically claiming two lives, the first of six critical road repair projects is nearing full completion. Westside Road in Forestville will reopen on Thursday, August 28, at noon including a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Sonoma County Public Infrastructure to mark the milestone. Read full story

Charles M. Schulz — Sonoma County Airport announces non-stop service to Palm Springs on Alaska Airlines

Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport today announced that Alaska Airlines will add Palm Springs as a non-stop destination from STS. The popular route will operate seasonally, with service commencing in October and ending in May of each calendar year. The first flight is scheduled for Oct. 26. Alaska Airlines will service Palm Springs with five weekly round-trip flights, utilizing their 76-seat Embraer 175 aircraft. Read full story

Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport to undergo triennial training exercise

On June 17 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport (STS) will be hosting its 2025 Triennial Full-Scale Emergency Exercise to test the Airport Emergency Plan and assess readiness for a major incident. Mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration, the Triennial is a practical exercise and safety training that takes place every three years at commercial service airports around the United States. The exercise simulates a large-scale aircraft incident, testing the planning, operational readiness, speed and effectiveness of emergency personnel across multiple agencies in real-time. Sonoma County Airport celebrates grand opening of “Flying Ace” restaurant

Board of Supervisors approves list of SB1 infrastructure projects for 2025-26 fiscal year

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today approved a list of local streets and road projects to be completed during the 2025-26 construction seasons using more than $14.5 million in anticipated revenue from SB1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act. The state’s SB1 Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account is derived primarily from per-gallon fuel excise taxes. All SB1 funds go to infrastructure repair and improvement projects, in alignment with the Resilient Infrastructure pillar of Sonoma County’s Five-year Strategic Plan. Read full story

Board of Supervisors approves replacement of Geysers Road bridge over Frasier Creek

The Board of Supervisors today approved plans and specifications for the replacement of the Geysers Road bridge that spans Frasier Creek east of Cloverdale. The existing bridge was identified by Caltrans as functionally obsolete and structurally vulnerable to failure during a major earthquake. The new two-lane bridge is designed to meet current standards including improvements to roadway approaches, travel lanes and road shoulders.  Read full story

Board of Supervisors approves construction to complete six emergency road repairs caused by winter storms

The Board of Supervisors today gave the green light for construction contracts to hasten the repair of six road segments damaged during recent winter storms, including Westside Road, Cavedale Road, West Soda Rock Lane, Wohler Road, and Giovanetti Road. Read full story

Board of Supervisors authorizes engineering services for seismic retrofit of Monte Rio bridge over Russian River

The Board of Supervisors today approved $1.8 million for engineering and environmental work in preparation of a seismic retrofit of the Bohemian Highway Bridge that spans the Russian River in Monte Rio. Read full story

Wohler Bridge over Russian River in Sonoma County to close April 1 for construction work

SANTA ROSA, CA – The Wohler Road Bridge seismic retrofit project is entering its second and final year of construction. As part of this critical safety upgrade, the bridge over the Russian River will be closed to the public from April 1 to Oct. 15. Work will include replacing steel elements on the 103-year-old bridge, deck demolition and replacement, and pier footing retrofit. Read full story
