Water Systems

Sonoma Public Infrastructure (PI) provides water service to four small districts: Fitch Mountain, Freestone, Jenner, and Salmon Creek.

Residents in these districts pay their water bills to PI. These funds cover operations and maintenance, which are managed by a private contractor, Russian River Utility (707-887-7735).

Funding

Our small water districts face special challenges during droughts. Since funding comes from water sales, revenue goes down when people use less water due to conservation efforts. Even with these challenges, PI is committed to providing safe, reliable water service.

Drought Relief: Water-Saving Tips

Even though recent wet winters have improved water supplies, conservation is still important. Most Californians use over half of their household water outdoors. Small changes at home can make a big difference:

• Mulch around plants to help soil hold moisture longer.
• Catch shower water in a bucket while it warms up and reuse it for plants.
• Water in short cycles (for example, three 3-minute cycles instead of one 10-minute cycle) so water soaks in instead of running off.
