California Health Alert Network (CAHAN)
The California Health Alert Network (CAHAN) is the official public health alerting and notification program for California, CAHAN is designed for emergency preparedness information sharing, distribution of pertinent public health related events and alerting materials, dissemination of treatment and prevention guidelines, coordinated disease investigation efforts, preparedness planning, and other initiatives that strengthen state and local preparedness. The priority health communication distribution through the health communication system is ranked into four different levels using the below levels of communications based on the noted definitions.
Enrollment is limited to administration and select staff with emergency preparedness roles in State Agencies, Local Health Jurisdictions and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) licensed Health Care Facilities.
Ebola Disease Outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the ongoing Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on May 17, 2026. The current risk to the general public remains low in the United States, but healthcare providers must be ready to identify, isolate, and report any suspect case. 6
