Geyserville Drainage Project Development

What’s Happening?

The County is studying Geyserville’s drainage system to understand why flooding happens and to prioritize fixes. The study will produce a report and project list with preliminary cost estimates to guide future improvements.

How We Got Here

Recurring flooding concerns prompted a closer look at how storm runoff moves through town—including ditches, streams, pipes, and culverts—and where the system needs repair or upgrades.

Why It Matters

  • Reduce flooding risks for homes, businesses, and roads
  • Target dollars where they do the most good with a prioritized project list
  • Coordinate agencies and residents so maintenance and improvements are clear and sustainable
  • Meet funding and procurement rules (FEMA and County requirements, including 2 CFR Part 200)

What’s Next

The County will work with residents, Caltrans, Sonoma Water, Cal Am Water, CDFW, and others to:

  • Gather and verify data on runoff sources and discharge locations
  • Map the existing drainage network and categorize facilities
  • Visit sites with residents to pinpoint problem areas and identify solutions
  • Hold meetings on in-stream issues that raise flood risk
  • Educate residents on simple maintenance steps (e.g., Drainage Day)
  • Develop an annual maintenance plan with responsible parties
  • Create a prioritized list of improvement projects (to ~30% design) with preliminary costs and funding options

The consultant’s work is complete when the final report is approved.

Timeline (high-level)

  • Data collection & mapping: In progress
  • Agency & community meetings: In progress / ongoing
  • Draft and final report with prioritized projects and costs: To follow data and outreach
